Jerry: Miles Austin Not Likely To Return This Week

Austin is at risk of missing the preseason with a hamstring issue for the second consecutive year

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said over the weekend that he doesn’t expect Miles Austin to return in the coming week, meaning there’s a strong chance that the veteran will miss the Rams game and, beyond that, the remainder of the preseason with a hamstring issue for the second consecutive year.

He’s not one of the ones I’m thinking will be back,” Jones told the team’s official website following Saturday’s exhibition loss to San Diego. “I wouldn’t discount it, but he’s not one of the ones that I have coming back. I hope (Matt) Johnson’s back out there. I hope Johnson can get out there and get some work in. That’s important to him and us.”

Since the starters usually sit out the preseason finale, the preseason week three game against St. Louis would most likely be the last chance for Austin to see any preseason action--and Jerry doesn’t sound optimistic about that possibility.

As unfortunate as it may be, it seems far more likely that we won’t see Austin until the September 5 regular season opener against the Giants.
