The owner of the Dallas Cowboys single-season rushing record has a piece of advice for the team’s first round pick, Ezekiel Elliott, and it isn’t any philosophical truism. Rather, Titans running back DeMarco Murray recently told Elliott through the press that he’ll do well to shadow veteran tight end Jason Witten—a practical, and good piece of advice.

"From day one, make sure he stays with 82 …” Murray said via ESPN’s Ed Werder on Twitter. "Everything and everywhere he goes be there by his side watching and listening. He will show him the way on and off the field."

    Murray would know.

The former bell cow in Dallas was Witten’s workout partner here, and has never been shy in discussing his admiration for No. 82. That much was clear even last September, when Murray’s Eagles were preparing to play the Cowboys for the first time.

He's a student of the game,” Murray said of Witten, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. “He probably could be a head coach for an NFL team right now with as much knowledge as he has for the game and all the things he's been through.

“But he's just someone who obviously is a great guy on and off the field. And he's a true professional, and I think that's one of the things that I took from him is showing up on Sundays, showing up throughout the course of the week, as well making sure you're working hard, making sure you know what you're doing, not messing up. And at the end of the day, having people to rely on you when they call your number, and I think that's Witt.

“He’s just someone that you try to pick his brain on everything. I had a good relationship with him. Still do. He's a good guy.”
