Cowboys Struggle To Explain December Swoon

Dallas is 16 games under .500 in the month of December over the last 15 years

The Dallas Cowboys have put together a 23-39 record in the month of December over the least 15 seasons, a span that has just seen one playoff win for the team. On Sunday, the team will open up the month with a home game against the Eagles, meaning there’ll be no shortage of questions about Dallas’ December struggles of late in the coming weeks.

There just might not be so many answers, at least not from the Cowboys themselves.

Aw, I don’t know, man,” veteran defensive end Marcus Spears said this week, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “It must be we got a curse of the Bambino or something. I really don’t know, man.”

One of the more likely theories about the so-called December Swoon we’ve heard is that maybe the Cowboys just haven’t been all that good all that often over that span. As Spears points out, Dallas isn’t exactly entering the month with a whole lot to lose.

“Struggling in December? We’re 5-6. We’ve been struggling a little bit already," Spears said. "We need to play good football. We need to play games and win games. It doesn’t matter whether it’s in the beginning or the end, you need to win enough to get to the postseason. So that’s what we’re focused on.”
