Updated: Aikman DWTS Comments Weren't Serious

UPDATE: Apparently, our initial skepticism was well-placed. Asked by understandably curious Fox officials about his comments, Aikman responded, "heavens no."

Assuming he wasn't merely being facetious outside of the Los Angeles restaurant Red O last night--which certainly seems a possibility--Troy Aikman will be the next Dallas Cowboy to appear on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars," and the final of the so-called Triplets of the early-nineties.

Per TMZ.com, Aikman said that he would follow in the footsteps of his former teammates in the next season of DWTS.

Michael Irvin had his turn on season 9, and, of course, Emmitt Smith won the whole shebang in season 3.

"Yeah, I am, next year," Aikman said in response to the question.

TMZ points out that it's unusual for a contestant to, in their words, "spill the beans" before the network does, which causes us to wonder if Aikman was being serious after all--which may be a good thing. The Hall of Famer, for all his talents, doesn't seem like he'd be a very adroit ballroom dancer (no offense, Troy).
