Tweet Haiku For Fried Food

State Fair of Texas wants you to Twitter away your time at this year's fair

With about 50 days left until the 123rd State Fair of Texas, it's time for the annual buildup of press releases, gimmicks, and contests to begin to try to entice more North Texans to visit Fair Park. And what do you know, here's a press release that fills that bucket nicely...

In celebration of the 5th annual Big Tex Choice Awards, the State Fair is conducting a contest via Twitter in which one lucky @StateFairOfTX follower will have the opportunity to attend this year’s competition and be one of the first to try all of the new fried confections. The chosen follower will tweet alongside @StateFairOfTx during the Sept. 7 event.

The rules to the contest are as follows:

To enter, follow and send a direct message (DM) or @ reply to @StateFairOfTX with a haiku pertaining to the State Fair of Texas. The haiku must contain five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. For example:

“Howdy Folks” says Tex
All aboard for food and fun
It must be fair time!

Haikus will be judged on basis of creativity. DMs or @ replies must be received no later than Aug. 31 at noon. One haiku per person. Only one (1) haiku will be chosen as winner. Winner must be available Sept. 7, 2009. Winner will receive access to the Big Tex Choice Awards, a t-shirt, and two complimentary tickets to the 2009 State Fair of Texas.

We came up with a Haiku for the contest, too:

Jumping on trend, eh?
Or new way to give details?
Meh, it's just fried foods.

P.S. You can follow us on Twitter, too @DFWAroundTown. No promises of future haikus.
