Zack Martin Impresses in Debut

Martin helped Dallas's starting offensive line to an impressive start to the preseason

Cowboys rookie right guard Zack Martin has been drawing praise all through camp and after the team’s preseason opener against the Chargers, that trend continued.

The Cowboys starting offensive line was only in for a brief time, but the unit looked good, consistently moving the Chargers’ defensive front and clearing the way for a nice early performance by reserve running back Joseph Randle--who went for 29 yards on six carries behind the starters.

Martin admitted being nervous going in during an in-game interview, but he didn’t much show it in his play.

"I was terribly nervous the first time out," said second-year center Travis Frederick. "I played a few more snaps than [Martin] did, but I think from what I can tell he did a very good job. He was comfortable, confident, which is all the good things you want. Obviously there’s plays for all of us where we can improve."

Frederick admitted he’d have to look at film to truly evaluate the line’s performance but said, on a gut level, he felt good about their showing.

"It obviously felt good for us to go against somebody else and see some new things, Frederick said. “You can only see so many things out of our defense (in practice). You’ve got to go against other people, so there’s going to be really good stuff on film for us to see and get better at as far as movements and things."
