Rangers Target Lucroy Requests Trade

Despite the fact he's under contract with another team, Milwaukee Brewers veteran catcher Jonathan Lucroy might be the Rangers' biggest target this winter.

On Tuesday, he did something that only ramps up the rumor mill as Lucroy requested — not demanded, mind you, just requested — a trade to a contending team after the Brewers have made it clear they're all-in on rebuilding.

Lucroy told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he's no dummy and realizes the Brewers aren't going to win in 2016, or any time soon really, and he wants to play for a contender and play in a World Series.

"I'm not going to sit here and say we're going to compete for the playoffs this year," Lucroy told the newspaper in a telephone interview. "If I did that, you'd call me a liar. I'd lose credibility and respect. I want to win, and I don't see us winning in the foreseeable future. I want to go to a World Series. That's what all players want. Rebuilding is not a lot of fun for any veteran guy."

Lucroy made it clear he won't pack it in and be a bitter teammate if he isn't traded, but he definitely wants to be dealt.

You know that turn of events had the Rangers' interest as they're looking for a star catcher, something they really haven't had since the days of Pudge Rodriguez, and Lucroy would qualify as a former all-star who is looking to bounce back after an injury-plagued, rough 2015 season.
