USA Women Defeat Turkey 89-58

After a close first quarter, the USA Women's Basketball team shot far ahead of Turkey to win 89-58.

Turkey's momentum in the first quarter kept the scores close, just 19 for the USA to Turkey's 16 at the end of that portion. But the US had at least double the score of Turkey in both the second and fourth quarters, ending 31 points ahead of the Turkish women.

Duncanville's Tamika Catchings was scoreless throughout the game, though she pulled down three defensive rebounds and one on offense to contribute to the team totals.

Turnovers were an issue for both teams, with the USA turning it over 15 times while the Turkish women did one worse with 16.

But the tale of the stats was obviously in shooting percentage. Turkey only made 29 percent of their two-point shots, but did fare a little better from downtown, where they netted 38 percent of their three-pointers. The US nailed 54 percent of their two-pointers, but behind the arc, they pulled a lower 23 percent.

And though we don't want to make the easy pun, Turkey's other problem was fouls -- 21 in total, which gave the US women 20 extra points to tack onto the score.
