Hurd Wins Ed Block Award

Wide receiver and special teams ace Sam Hurd learned on Friday that he would not play in the Dallas Cowboys’ season finale against the Eagles in Philadelphia; he also, however, learned that he had won the Ed Block award for the Cowboys.

The award is given to one player on each of the 32 teams in the NFL, as voted on by that player’s teammates, for exemplifying “commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and courage.”

Hurd came back from an offseason surgical procedure on his right thumb and was named the captain of the special teams unit in training camp. He is second on the team with 21 tackles on special teams, and has 14 catches for 120 yards on offense.
