The Dallas Cowboys were scheduled to spend Wednesday afternoon on the practice field, but thanks to head coach Jason Garrett’s arm, they went to the beach, instead.
Garrett, who said he had intended to give the team a day off at some point this week, broke the team up into six groups at the end of the morning practice session and then gave each group a quarterback. If any of these quarterbacks could hit the cross bar of the field goal from 35 yards out, the whole team would be dismissed for a day of fun in the sun.
Only problem was, none of the QBs pulled it off. Not Tony Romo, not Nick Stephens, not Alex Tanney.
It was the former NFL quarterback Garrett who finally pulled it off, kind of. Maybe. Whether or not the Dallas head coach actually hit the bar is a point of debate, but after the "hit" he let his players go, and as you might imagine, no one was going to argue with him.
“We were planning on doing this anyway--we had three good days of practice coming out of the Oakland game,” Garrett said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Our guys have worked hard, and I just think it’s the right thing to do. I think they responded well to the work we had earlier in the week--give them a little bit of a break, come back tomorrow and start getting ready for Arizona.”
