FW Cats' Gautreau Sold to Tampa Bay

The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced Friday that Fort Worth Cats INF Jake Gautreau has been sold to the 2008 American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays. He is the second player purchased by the Rays since the end of the 2008 season (Paul Phillips – Pensacola Pelicans).

The South Padre Island, TX resident batted .282 with 12 home runs, 70 RBI and 98 hits for Fort Worth this past season. Gautreau, 29, was a first round selection (14th overall) of the San Diego Padres in 2001. The Tulane University graduate spent four seasons with the Padres from 2001-2004.

In 2005 and 2006, Gautreau played with the Cleveland Indians Triple A affiliate, Buffalo. In 2007, he was with New Orleans, the Triple A club of the New York Mets.

Gautreau is the second Cat and eighth overall American Association player sold to a major league organization since the end of the 2008 season.
