DeSean Jackson on 4th Quarter Blunder: “I'll Take That on the Chin”

Washington receiver and return man DeSean Jackson offered no excuses for his big fourth quarter blunder in the 19-16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Jackson, who said after he was simply trying to make a play for his team, fielded the punt, then reversed field and went backwards trying to set up a return. He got all the way back near the Redskins’ goal line before gaining ground to about the ten, where he was hit by several Cowboys and fumbled. Cowboys’ punter Chris Jones actually recovered the fumble, and Dallas scored a go-ahead touchdown two plays later.

“I’ll take that on the chin,” Jackson said, per ESPN Dallas. “I fumbled. I know better than that. Protect the ball under any circumstance and get down.”

Jackson added that he doesn’t regret trying the make a big play.

“I wouldn’t really change nothing, but at a point I was probably like I should have went out of bounds,” Jackson said. “But I was being a playmaker and trying to make a play for my team, but it didn’t come out my way.”

Of course, Jackson would go on to catch a touchdown pass to tie the game after that, but unfortunately for the Redskins, they struck too quick—leaving Dallas enough time to set Dan Bailey up for the game-winning, 54-yard field goal.
