Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle hasn’t minced words when discussing his team’s game one loss at Miami on Tuesday, a loss that he says, was a result of a lack of rebounding, and therefore a lack of opportunities on the offensive side of the ball; when the opportunities did arrive, they were often wasted as the team posted one of its poorer shooting performances of this offseason.
Dirk Nowitzki was 7-18 for the field, hardly his best performance, but a fairly gleaming one when held up to some other key contributors for Dallas. Jason Terry, J.J. Barea and Peja Stojakovich combined to go 4-21 from the field, for 12.
Dallas was out-rebounded by the Heat, 46-36.
"We have to be more opportunistic," Carlisle said, per ESPN Dallas. "Our shot-making has to be better and our rebounding has to be better. We're minus-10 on the offensive boards. That's 10 more opportunities that they have the ball and we don't. Those are two big areas."
