Rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant had successful surgery Monday morning, to stabilize his right fibula, which (of course) was fractured during Sunday’s win over the Indianapolis Colts. The procedure involved inserting a metal plate in the leg, marking the beginning of a long recovery process for the rookie.
Bryant will be placed on injured reserve, and will finish his rookie season with 45 catches for 561 yards and six touchdowns, as well as two scores on punt returns.
“That sets us back,” Owner Jerry Jones said on Sunday, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “That sets us back. I really feel bad for him, but it really sets us back. The good news is we’ve got some depth there.”
Jones continued that the ultra-competitive Bryant can continue his development on the sidelines if he approaches this period with the right mindset, and believes that the injury will present a test for the 22-year-old’s maturity.
"This is hard to handle as much as he wants to be with the team, out on the practice field, being a part of these games," Jones said. "He's going to have to bite that, be mature, be more grown up about the situation he's in."
