Bennett Developing Connection With Romo

Cowboys’ tight end Martellus Bennett has a seemingly natural on-field rapport with backup quarterback Jon Kitna. The two connected five times in the team’s Blue and White scrimmage on Sunday in the continuation of what has been a strange sort of dynamic duo for the Cowboys in camp over the past few years.

The only problem of course, is that Kitna is not the starting quarterback--and barring an injury to Tony Romo, Bennett won’t be looking toward Kitna when the regular season begins. This has left Bennett to work toward developing a similar connection between he and Romo in San Antonio this year.

So far, Bennett says the connection with Romo, if not as good as that between he and Kitna, is improving.

“Since we met we’ve always been on the same page,” Bennett said of Kitna, per ESPN Dallas. “The way I play is what he expects. Sometimes I might break off a route a little shorter because I know he wants that.

“I’m getting that same way with [Tony] Romo now. Even if it’s Kitna I’ll ask Romo, ‘What did you expect me to do there? Was that good?’ and he’ll say, ‘Yeah,’ or, ‘The next time try it this way,’ so I’m there with him to where he knows what to expect from me, too.”
