Stars Fire Coaches Glen Gulutzan, Paul Jerrard

The Dallas Stars have fired head coach Glen Gulutzan after he failed to make the playoffs in two seasons at the helm.

Assistant coach Paul Jerrard also was fired.

New general manager Jim Nill announced the moves Tuesday. Nill replaced Joe Nieuwendyk, who also was fired after four years without taking the Stars to the postseason.

"I would like to thank Glen Gulutzan and Paul Jerrard for the work they provided to the Dallas organization over the past four seasons," said Nill. "They are both quality coaches and men, but we have decided to go in a different direction with our coaching staff and we wish them well in their next endeavors."

Dallas has missed the playoffs a franchise-record five straight years.

The 41-year-old Gulutzan was 64-57-9 in two seasons, including 22-22-4 in the lockout-shortened 2013 season.

The Stars said assistant coach Curt Fraser and goaltending coach Mike Valley will stay with the club.
