The MLS season is right around the corner and the work on the field begins today for FC Dallas as preseason camp opens up in Frisco.
FC Dallas finished the 2017 season with a 11-10-13 overall record, missing the playoffs in the process. They were strong at home at 8-2-7 but going on the road was a problem. FC Dallas was 3-8-6 away from the friendly confines of Toyota Stadium.
The signings of Bulgarian defender Anton Nedyalkov and Swiss defender Reto Ziegler bring isome mpressive international experience to FC Dallas. Ziegler has spent time in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, Russian Premier League, Turkish SuperLig and, most recently, played four seasons with FC Luzern in his native Switzerland. He also has 34 appearances with the Swiss national team.
Nedyalkov has played his entire professional career in Bulgaria and has appeared five times for the Bulgarian national team.
From Ghana to Frisco
FC Dallas spent their first two picks in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft on two players from Ghana, picking Francis Atuahene at No. 4 and Ema Twumasi at No. 11 Both players grew up 30 minutes from each other. Both came to the states and played collegiately through the Right to Dream Academy, an organization that provides educational and athletic opportunities for student-athletes in Ghana.
Goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer moved to Frisco from New York during the offseason after playing for the NASL’s New York Cosmos. The 29-year also played in Chilean Primera Division with C.D. Universidad de Concepción. He appeared on an episode of House Hunters International while looking for a house in Chile.
Camp will begin with two-a-day sessions through Saturday. The first preseason match will be February 3 at NPSL’s Chattanooga FC. The regular season opener will be on March 3 in Frisco against Real Salt Lake.
