Elvis Andrus Ready To Go At Rangers Spring Camp

The eyes of Texas are on a 20-year-old rookie with a funny name who arrived at spring training for the Texas Rangers.

Twenty-year-old Elvis Andrus was met by a small group of reporters at his locker when he arrived at Surprise, Ariz. today.

Team officials have said Andrus will be the starter at shortstop this year after the team moved five-time All-Star Michael Young to third base.

Young initially balked at management's off-season decision and asked for a trade but changed his mind -- though he still didn't agree with it.

Andrus spent last season at Double-A Frisco where he hit four home runs, 65 RBIs and stole 56 bases.

The first full-squad workout will be next week. Pitchers and catchers reported today, a day before their first scheduled workout.

All-Star center fielder Josh Hamilton has been in Arizona since early January. Ian Kinsler and Hank Blalock are also in camp. Young is expected early next week.
