Actor Sean Penn and musician Wyclef Jean have to come to a truce over a shared passion: Haiti.
The two stars, who have traded barbs over their respective levels of commitment to rebuilding the earthquake-devastated nation, were able to settle their differences after an encounter at a New York music club, reports the New York Post.
The two men had a 30 minute, closed-door discussion in a dressing room at the B.B. King Blues Club and Grill over Valentine's Day weekend while in attendance to see Haitian band T-Vice. According to the Post's account, the situation started tensely before the celebs decided to find a less public place to discuss their differences. When the talk was over, they came out, hugged one another, and then appeared onstage with the group and Michel Martelly, who is running for president of Haiti.
"In Haiti, we have got an opportunity as Americans whether you are from Haitian diaspora or pr - - ks like me . . . These two men beside me will lead the way if you support them . . . let's move on for some fun," Penn said as he addressed the crowd.
After Jean announced his intention to run for president of his native land in the wake of the 2010 disaster, Penn accused the former Fugees member of deserting Haiti when it most needed him, calling him a "personality that threatens to create a new swell of social unrest in a plagued country."
Jean, who was eventually disqualified from running for failing to meet residency requirements, fired back at Penn, saying that the Milk actor may have been preoccupied by drug use, a charge strongly denied by Penn's representatives.
