The coldest air of the season so far roared into North Texas Tuesday morning when temperatures dropped as low as 22 in some areas. The record low temperature at DFW Airport is 21.
The combination of the low temperatures and gusty winds made temperatures feel like the low teens and single digits before sunrise. The winds will gradually decrease during the day.
In preparation for the cold, make sure you protect your pets, pipes and plants. Also check on your elderly neighbors and make sure they are keeping warm.

On Tuesday, MedStar said paramedics have responded to five calls for patients experiencing cold exposure and three people have been hospitalized since 5:30 p.m. Monday.
MedStar says it is operating under its extreme weather response protocol for patients outside in unprotected areas. That means response priorities are upgraded for patients who are outside.
As we go through the rest of the work week, temperatures will gradually increase. They will still be below normal, but they'll be more comfortable than the cold air over North Texas right now.
