Severe Thunderstorm Watch Expires

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Erath, Grayson, Henderson, Hill, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Montague, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Parker, Rockwall, Somervell, Tarrant, Van Zandt and Wise counties has expired.

Severe storms left a path of damage and widespread power outages across the Dallas-Fort Worth region Sunday afternoon.

Some storms prompted tornado warnings in Dallas County and sightings of funnel clouds in Tarrant County.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued Sunday morning warned of the possibilities of wind gusts up to 75 mph, large hail and possible tornadoes. Hail up to 3-inches in diameter is possible.

Overnight storms had prompted a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, but it was canceled at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday.

Rain chances will extend into the first part of next week. Total rainfall from Sunday through Wednesday could be around two inches in parts of North Texas.

Stay Safe During a Hail Storm   At Home? Head indoors immediately If time allows, close all drapes, blinds or shades to prevent broken glass from entering your home. Stay away from windows and skylights (any exterior glass) and head to a safe location inside your home, ideally only with interior walls. Outdoors? Cover your head and seek shelter indoors immediately. If you are trapped outside, get to a low-lying area and try to protect your head. Use clothing if it's all you have. Driving? Stay inside your vehicle. Slow down or pull over and stop at a safe location. DO NOT stop under a highway overpass. You may be protecting your vehicle, but you could be forcing other people to stop behind you. Turn your back to windows or cover yourself with a blanket, coat or spare clothing to protect yourself from breaking glass. If you have a sunroof, try to find something to protect your head.
