Children's Health Holiday Parade

UPDATE: The Children's Health Holiday Parade has been cancelled due to weather concerns. "Despite today's beaming sunshine, weather forecasts for DFW include a high probability of heavy rain and cold temperatures on Saturday. Due to these impending weather conditions and the fact that many of the acts cannot perform in the rain, we are canceling the Children's Health Holiday Parade out of concern for the well-being of the patients and families we serve. We sincerely appreciate all of the incredible patients, volunteers, participants, sponsors and attendees who help bring the parade to life each year, especially Santa."

Duncanville Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony

Due to inclement weather conditions, the Duncanville Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting Celebration scheduled for today has been postponed to next Friday, December 9th at 7:00 p.m. Event participants may contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 972-780-5070 for questions and concerns. We thank you for your advanced understanding and cooperation as we aim to provide the citizens of Duncanville a safe holiday celebration.

Frisco Tree Lighting Moved from Dec. 3 to Dec. 1

(November 30, 2016) The City of Frisco is rescheduling its tree lighting ceremony for tomorrow, Thursday, December 1 at 6 p.m. Mayor Pro Tem Will Sowell will lead the countdown to the tree lighting.

"We made the decision to avoid the heavy rain forecast for this Saturday," said Rick Wieland, Director of Parks and Recreation. "Residents and visitors are already enjoying the choreographed light show in Frisco Square. This way, our residents can enjoy our traditional tree lighting without the rain."

Also, due to the rainy forecast, the City of Frisco will host a 'Mini' Merry Main Street from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. this Saturday, December 3, which is the event's original date. Activities that can be held indoors will be hosted inside City Hall (6101 Frisco Square Blvd.). All activities scheduled outdoors are cancelled.

The Kids Holiday Store will be open from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., first come, first served. Nothing else has changed. The store is open to young shoppers, ages 3 - 12. Children can surprise their mom and dad with a wrapped gift from the store where nothing is priced at more than $5. Cash only.

Rain can't keep Mr. and Mrs. Claus away! Children can visit Santa inside City Hall and take home a free photo. Mrs. Claus will be serving free cookies.

"Merry Main Street has been a holiday staple in Frisco for 26 years," said Wieland. "We're looking forward to continuing that tradition, despite scaling it down a bit due to the very wet forecast."

The City of Frisco partners with Frisco Square to host Christmas in the Square, which features more than 175,000 lights and is one of the largest choreographed light and music shows in North Texas.

Forney Cancels 'Christmas on Main' Due to Weather

Due to the anticipation of inclement weather on December 3, the City has decided to cancel the Christmas on Main event this year. While it was difficult to come to this conclusion, staff based the decision off the consensus local and national forecasts predicting Saturday to be a "washout" with long periods of precipitation throughout the day. The likelihood of rain during the event would not only affect public safety, but also prohibit the City from operating a number of the activities such as the bounce houses and ice-skating rink.

While the event will be cancelled and not rescheduled, residents will still be able to participate in activities on Tuesday, December 6 in Downtown Forney. Though details remain to be confirmed, the City will be hosting the downtown Christmas Tree Lighting that evening at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony will include the arrival of Santa, choir performances and finally the official lighting of the Christmas tree by the Mayor and members of City Council. Santa will be on hand to listen to holiday wish lists and take the ever-important pictures with the children after the ceremony has concluded. We will provide more details as they are confirmed.

We always strive to provide the best product or event for our residents and in this case, we felt that due to the inclement weather, it would not be possible. We apologize for any inconvenience cancelling this event has caused anyone. We would still like to wish everyone Happy Holidays and look forward to seeing everyone at the Tree Lighting ceremony on December 6.

Grand Prairie's Prairie Lights (OPEN)

Despite rain being in the forecast, the city of Grand Prairie says Prairie Lights will be open even if it rains. They'll only close when rain poses a danger to staff and visitors.

Mesquite's Christmas in the Park

Today (Dec. 1) The City of Mesquite announced that due to this weekend's inclement weather forecast, the Christmas in the Park event scheduled for Westlake Park on December 3 and 4 has been rescheduled to December 10 and 11. The majority of the planned activities, entertainment and scheduled fun will still be provided. For the most current information on the event, visit the event's special webpage at www.cityofmesquite.com/ChristmasInThePark.

The AMBUCS Club will still host the Pancake Breakfast scheduled for Saturday, December 3, 8 - 11 a.m. inside of Evans Senior Center, 1116 Hillcrest Street. For $3 per person attendees can enjoy a pancake breakfast and a visit with Santa Claus. All proceeds benefit the AMBUCS mission of creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities.

Richardson's 44th Annual Christmas Parade And Saturday Activities At Santa’s Village Canceled Due To Weather

Richardson’s 44th Annual Christmas Parade as well as the tree lighting and other activities at Santa’s Village have been canceled for Saturday due to weather forecasts that call for a high probability of heavy rain and cold temperatures throughout the day.

The 44th Annual Christmas Parade was scheduled to begin Saturday, Dec. 3 at 9 a.m. along Plano Road between Belt Line and Apollo Roads in Richardson. This is only the third time in the parade’s history that it has had to be canceled due to weather. The last time was in 2013.

Richardson’s Santa’s Village activities have also been cancelled for Saturday, Dec. 3 due to safety concerns related to the weather. Parks and Recreation Department personnel will continue to monitor the forecast throughout the weekend to determine any impacts on operations at Santa’s Village for Sunday, Dec. 4.

Event information for Santa’s Village throughout the month of December is available on the City’s website at www.cor.net/santasvillage as well as the Parks and Recreation event information line at 972-744-4301.

Event organizers would like to express their enormous gratitude to all parade participants and volunteers for their dedicated support. They would also like to express their sincere thanks for the many toy and cash donations made to support the NETWORK of Community Ministries.

Meanwhile, Grand Prairie's Prairie Lights goes on rain or shine.
