Offshore Service Company Announces Layoffs

Hercules Offshore says it will lay off Gulf of Mexico offshore employees including some in Port Fourchon later this year amid low oil prices that haven't shown any signs of increasing.

The Courier reports the Houston-based company, with an office in Houma, filed a Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification in Louisiana on Sept. 22.

The company says about 50 employees based out of the company's docks in Fourchon and Cameron will eliminated on or around Nov. 21.

Cuts are expected to be permanent and there will be no bumping rights, meaning senior employees will not be able to take jobs that were held by junior employees.
