Armed Teen Fatally Shot in Police Station

Police say woman entered lobby, threatened officers

Longview police say officers fatally shot a teenager who walked into the police department lobby and threatened them with a weapon.

The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the teen as 17-year-old Kristiana Coignard of Longview.

Police spokeswoman Kristie Brian said Coignard walked into the building Thursday night, picked up an assistance phone and called for help.

When officers responded, Brian says the woman brandished a weapon and made threatening movements toward them.

Brian says the woman was shot, though it was not immediately clear how many times she was struck or how many officers fired.

It wasn't immediately clear what type of weapon she had.

Brian says the woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Texas Rangers are investigating.
