Fort Worth Diocese Gets New Bishop

A Roman Catholic priest in North Texas has been selected to lead the Fort Worth Diocese.

Pope Francis on Tuesday named Monsignor Michael F. Olson as bishop.

Olson currently is a priest with the Fort Worth Diocese and serves as rector of Irving-based Holy Trinity Seminary.

The 47-year-old Olson replaces Bishop Kevin Vann, who in September 2012 was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Orange, Calif.

An ordination and installation ceremony will be held Jan. 29 for Olson, who'll lead an estimated 710,000 Catholics in the 28-county North Texas region. The mass will be celebrated at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
