Early Voting in North Texas Off to Fast Start

Polling locations across the DFW metroplex report a busy first day

Early voting is off to a fast start in North Texas with polling locations reporting high volume Tuesday.

Tarrant County Elections Administrator Frank Phillips said more than 5,500 people have already cast their votes.

According to the Collin County Elections Department, nearly 3,000 voters showed up on the first day.

"We're going to be higher than four years ago," Collin County Elections Administrator Bruce Sherbet said. "We're looking at somewhere around 20 percent turnout right now. We had 13 percent turnout four years ago and 33 percent in 2008."

Sherbet said larger turnout is expected due to population growth in Collin County. He estimates 500,000 registered voters.

"We have over 100,000 more registered voters than we had in 2008," Sherbet said. "I'm expecting this to end with a very good turnout for early voting."
