Cabo-Inspired Lagoon to Call Lake Ray Hubbard Home: Report

A $1 billion project will take shape on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard in Rowlett, according to the Dallas Business Journal.

The Cabo San Lucas-inspired project will be located on a peninsula in the middle of the lake near Interstate 30.

Right now, there are just a few restaurants and marinas there. But after the completion of Bayside, the name of the project, the developer says it will include hundreds of new homes, thousands of new apartments, commercial real estate and an impressive Crystal Lagoon.

"I've been out here since 1987, and this area, I think, needs to be developed somehow like that as an entertainment district," said Tom Allemire, a Rowlett resident.

The Journal reports the developer is going down to Mexico next week to see one of the lagoons.

The project is still in the very beginning stages, but the engineering part is expected to be complete by the end of next year with construction to follow that.

"If they're going to build something here that is that expensive, they need to make sure it's not going to get flooded out or other disasters that would make it not a good location for such a project," said Lee Williams, who boats on Lake Ray Hubbard.
