A South Texas businessman who owns sporting goods and weapons stores has been convicted of trying to export more than 600 assault gun magazines to Mexico.
Prosecutors in Laredo say 42-year-old Arturo Gonzalez awaits sentencing after being convicted Thursday of three weapons counts.
Authorities say all of the AK-47 assault rifle magazines in the undercover investigation were seized before reaching Mexico. The case goes back to 2012.
Prosecutors on Friday did not immediately provide information on a possible sentence for Gonzalez, who remains free on bond.
Investigators say Gonzalez owns two J.C. Twiss "El Canonazo" sporting apparel and firearm accessories stores in Laredo.
