It happened Saturday during the Rednecks with Paychecks event near Saint Jo in Montague County. Nicholas Torres was riding a four-wheeler when he crashed into the side of a pickup, according to the Montague County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff said Torres was taken by helicopter to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, where he later died. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office said he died from multiple traumatic injuries.

"I didn't even get to say goodbye to my brother, I didn't get to say I loved him," said Alexis Torres.

Torres' sister described him as a fearless, active 10-year-old who was friendly and well-known in the neighborhood and at school. She said he was on the trip with his father as an end-of-spring-break getaway.

"The first night there, he kept telling my dad it was a blast... and that he had the best weekend of his life," said Alexis Torres.

Torres' 13-year-old cousin was riding with Nicholas and suffered some injuries.

Rednecks with Paychecks is a four-day event for off-road enthusiasts that boasts more than 1,000 acres of terrain "fit for anyone from amateurs to die-hard off-road extremists."
