Mesquite police said an officer was taken to the hospital after a vehicle crashed into his patrol car Monday morning.
The officer was blocking the HOV lane in the 1300 block of Interstate 30 because of a stalled vehicle in at about 5:23 a.m. when a Mitsubishi Eclipse crashed into his vehicle, according to Mesquite Police Department officials.
Police said the driver of the Eclipse tried to go around the officer's vehicle, but another vehicle next to his prevented it. The driver slammed into the passenger side of the patrol car.
The officer was in the driver seat. Officials said he injured his shoulder and was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Police said they expect him to be released Monday.

Police said the driver of the Eclipse was not hurt. He was neither cited nor arrested.
