Selwyn School Finally Pegged for Repairs

After 3 years of waiting, the Selwyn College Preparatory School in Denton is about to get some major repairs.

The school announced plans to rebuild one of their main academic buildings and renovate their dining hall and kitchen.

Those buildings were destroyed in an apparent arson in February of 2012 and forced students and staff into temporary classrooms and cramped facilities ever since.

Selwyn Director of Finance Clarke Stephan said the process to rebuild has been a slow one because Selwyn operates as a private school and does not get any government funding; they’ve had to raise most of the money to fix up the damage themselves.

The new, 18,000 square foot building will house their K-5 classrooms, administrative offices, early childhood area, and other amenities.

Selwyn Headmaster Karen Morris said the rebuild couldn’t come at a better time as the school is seeing a surge in enrollment and needs the extra space to accommodate more students.

They hope to complete the project by the end of 2015. The 2012 fire at the school, at last check, remains unsolved.
