New Police Chief in Allen

Former Dallas Officer takes top job up north.

The new police chief of Allen must drive a little further up Central Expressway.

The Collin County community of 84,000 residents named Brian E. Harvey as the new Chief of Police.  He will start on February 6.

Harvey is a former Deputy Chief of Police in Dallas. He last coordinated Homeland Security and Tactical Intelligence in Dallas.  That division includes crime analysis, the gang unit, major crimes and protection of Love Field. Harvey has been in law enforcement for more than 30 years.

"I look forward to serving the Allen community and continuing the legacy of professionalism, superior customer service, transparency and crime reduction," Harvey said in a city statement.

Harvey replaces retiring Chief William Rushing.

In December of 2011, Allen ranked as the ninth safest city in the United States with a population over 75,000.
