Missing Mesquite 5-Year-Old Found

Police say the situation did not meet Amber Alert criteria

Dallas police found missing 5 year-old Misty Victoria Stevens shortly after midnight when they saw the car she was in leaving a suspected drug house in southeast Dallas, according to Mesquite police.

Police said on Friday at about 6:30 p.m., her mother's boyfriend, Andy Paul McCauley, left with Stevens to go to a grocery store in Dallas. When they did not return by 6 a.m. Saturday, Stevens' mother, became concerned and called police.

Mesquite police said Dallas officers watching a suspected drug house near Barry Road and Grand Avenue observed McCauley's car leaving the location. Officers stopped McCauley's car and found McCauley and Stevens inside according to police.

McCauley was arrested. No word what charges he faces.

Mesquite detectives took Misty home to her mother and said she appeared to be uninjured. Child Protective Services was also notified and will conduct a follow-up investigation.

Mesquite police said because the mother allowed her daughter to go with McCauley there was no abduction so the case did not meet the criteria to issue an Amber Alert. Police also said agencies have to request an Amber Alert, they do not issue them without approval by the state.
