Indicator Light Sends Dallas-Bound American Airlines Flight Back to Sacramento

An American Airlines plane with 141 passengers on board has returned to Sacramento International Airport after an apparent problem with a fuel line.

The airline says in an email that the MD-80 took off from Sacramento on Tuesday morning and was headed to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport when an indicator light in the cockpit reported a possible mechanical issue.

The flight returned to Sacramento and landed safely around 10:30 a.m.

Chris Harvey, a spokesman for the Sacramento Fire Department, said emergency crews were on the ground in case of a problem but they were not needed. He says fire officials received a report that the plane had a clogged fuel line.

American Airlines said the plane also had five crew members on board.
