Firefighter Laid to Rest Monday

Funeral services will be held Monday for a Lancaster firefighter.

Joel Otwell, 50, died Thursday from injuries he suffered while off-duty, during a fall at a church.

Otwell joined the Lancaster Fire Department in 1989.  He was a paramedic, on the honor guard and a member of the swift water rescue team. He had numerous awards and commendations for his service.

Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Denton Bible Church on University Drive. Otwell is to be laid to rest at the Belew Cemetery, in Pilot Point.
 
He is survived by his wife, and a host of family and friends.

A trust fund has been established at Chase Bank and starting July 26, 2010 donations can be made to the memorial of Joel Otwell at any local branch.
