Execution for ‘Texas 7' Escapee Moved to December

'Texas 7' death row inmate Joseph Garcia's execution has been moved from August 30 to December 4.

The date for 45-year-old Garcia's execution was set for Wednesday August 30 but citing a court's clerical mistake, prosecutors asked for new execution date. The court approved a December 5 date after the clerk failed to issue a death warrant in time.

Garcia who was part of the seven prisoners who escaped from a Huntsville prison in December 2000 and committed numerous robberies including the Christmas Eve holdup of a sporting goods store in Irving where police officer, Aubrey Hawkins, was killed. They were captured in Colorado after a six-week manhunt where one of the group killed himself there.

Garcia is one of three of the men on death row. Three others have already been executed.
