Overheated A/C Unit Triggers Fire Alarm, Evacuation at Dallas Love Field

Holiday travelers were forced to evacuate Dallas Love Field early Friday morning after smoke triggered a fire alarm inside the terminal.

Airport officials said smoke triggered the alarms and evacuation at about 4:30 a.m. after a short occurred in an overheated air conditioner unit.

Passengers posted photos and videos on social media showing crowds gathered outside the pickup and drop-off areas at about 5 a.m.

After about 30 minutes, the Dallas Love Field Twitter account announced that firefighters had inspected the terminal and normal operations would resume.

Airport officials warned TSA security screenings could take as long as 90 minutes. Check your airline for specific updates on delays or cancellations. The flight tracking website FlightAware.com reported Love Field delays averaging at about an hour.
