Arlington Warehouse Evacuated Over Bag of White Powder

An Arlington building was evacuated Tuesday morning over a bag full of white powder.

The Arlington Fire Department said the bag was found near a trash bin at the CEVA warehouse on the 3900 block of New York Avenue and that an employee picked up the bag and brought it into the building to report it to a supervisor.

The supervisor told the employee to put the bag down, evacuated the building and called 911.

Hazmat crews with the Arlington Fire Department arrived and allowed the employees to return to the building after determining the powder was only baking soda.

Arlington fire officials said the incident is a good lesson in what people should do if they ever find a suspicious package.

The recognize the employee had good intentions, but said a suspicious package should never be handled and should be left to emergency responders.

NBC 5's Frank Heinz contributed to this report.
