Three cadets were injured at a police academy when a gun that was in another cadet's backpack went off, Texas City police say. The incident happened about 7:40 p.m. Thursday at College of the Mainland Law Enforcement Training Academy in Texas City, about 35 miles southeast of Houston. Officers determined one cadet reached into his bag where he had a loaded gun, which discharged, striking the calves of two cadets — a man and a woman — and grazing a third, police said. The two cadets who were hit were transported to a local hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
