Sleeping 4-year-old Boy Killed in Drive-by Shooting in San Antonio

A 4-year-old boy was killed in a drive-by shooting as he slept in the front room of a house in San Antonio, police said. De-Earlvion Whitley was asleep about midnight Thursday when gunmen pulled up in front of the one-story house in the 200 block of Hub Avenue and opened fire, the San Antonio Express-News reported. The boy died at the home. His mother, Cyntwanisha Whitley, was shot twice in the leg. The intended victim was uninjured, police said. Police said people who called 911 reported hearing a woman screaming, "My baby, my baby," the Express-News reported. "Why you didn't take me?" she said, sitting on the curb outside the home. "Why you didn't take me?"San Antonio police Chief William McManus said the shooting may have been retaliation for a drive-by earlier Wednesday that resulted in a few injuries. He said officers stopped two vehicles "loaded up with guns and ammunition" and arrested four people near the shooting, but it's unclear whether they were responsible. "The message to those who did the shooting last night is, we will arrest you at some point," McManus said. "And we will not stop until we arrest you."In a post to Facebook on Thursday night, Whitley said the family wants justice, not retaliation."My baby didn't deserve this at all, and as his mother, I will stand with the men in blue," she said, thanking the first responders who worked to save her son.   Continue reading...
