"Sometimes a bill doesn't pass, but you win," Patrick said Wednesday at a news conference with Gov. Greg Abbott and House Speaker Dennis Bonnen. "I think it's been settled and I think it's been won. When you win the battle, you don't have to fight the battle again." The three officials also said they're on the same page when it comes to lowering Texans' property taxes and fixing the state's ailing system of funding public schools. While the details have yet to be worked out, they assured Texans their unity alone would ensure progress on these issues.2. Patrick also put the kibosh on him leaving his job as the Senate president for a gig in the Trump administration, though he missed the first day of the session Tuesday for meetings at the White House. "End that rumor. It's crazy. It's out of control," he said.3. The Texas House on Wednesday strengthened its procedures on sexual harassment and gave a panel already armed with sweeping investigative powers the job of ensuring that the chamber offers "a safe and professional environment."4.
