American Airlines Objects to $8.5 Billion Chicago O'Hare Airport Revamp Over ‘secret Deal' With Rival United

American Airlines is threatening to derail a proposed $8.5 billion expansion of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport over what it calls a “secret provision” inserted into the deal at the last minute that would favor rival United Airlines, the airport’s other major tenant.American said Wednesday that it could not sign the proposed lease in its current form, the same day it was presented to Chicago City Council for the first time.The $8.5 billion expansion would see O’Hare, the country’s third largest airport, add about 35 new gates to the existing 185.
