A Downtown Dallas Historical Marker Thought Stolen Is Safely in Police Custody

Last month I wrote a straight-up news story about a historical marker that was missing from downtown Dallas — specifically, the sign commemorating the "Junction of the Texas & Pacific and Houston & Texas Central Railroads" at present-day Pacific Avenue beneath Interstate 345.Because the thing was never found, Dallas police issued a missing-marker bulletin Tuesday. Everyone presumed the marker was stolen. It happens.But as of 3 p.m. Tuesday, the marker was in the possession of Dallas police Detective Jerry Gamez, who's trying to get it in the right hands that can plant it back in the right spot.  Continue reading...
