2-year-old Boy Dies Days After He Was Pulled From Arlington Pool

A 2-year-old boy died Monday, days after he was pulled from a pool in Arlington, officials say. Police were called about 7 p.m. Saturday to a possible drowning call in the 5600 block of Indian Hill Drive, near Green Oaks Boulevard. Officers arrived within minutes of the 911 call and began CPR, police said. The child was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead Monday. He was identified as Nash Mohammed Usman of Austin, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office. It's unclear how long he was in the pool. Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding his death, but it appears to have been an accident, police said.This year, 59 children have drowned in Texas this year. Of those, 32 were in a backyard or community pool, according to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.Tips to help prevent drowning Learn to swim and teach your children. Actively supervise children around water, even if there's a lifeguard. Secure pools with appropriate barriers. Teach children to ask for permission to go near water. If a child is missing, check the water first. If someone is in the water and needs help, reach or throw something out to them. Don't go in. If the drowning is in a lake, find a landmark where the victim went underwater that is not subject to wind or tides to speed the search process.
