Carr Impressed by Johnson

Matt Johnson is back on the field after missing his entire rookie season with injuries

Secondary coach Jerome Henderson has said second-year safety Matt Johnson is essentially a rookie, since he missed his entire rookie season with a string of injuries. But Johnson has already impressed cornerback Brandon Carr, who believes--inexperience aside--that Dallas will be fine at the safety position this year.

β€œIt was injuries last year,” Carr told 103.3-FM ESPN Radio last week, via the Dallas Morning News. β€œI feel Barry Church was on his way to making a name for himself. He’s coming off the injury and looking explosive, looking just as good.

β€œAlso, Matt Johnson is back off his injuries and is out there playing. I can see his range as a safety. I can kind of see what all the hype was about him coming out of college last year.”

In camp, Johnson will most likely battle veteran Will Allen and rookie JJ Wilcox, a Georgia Southern product, for the starting safety job opposite Church.
