At Least Three Teams Courting LB Victor Butler

Butler was drafted by the Cowboys in the fourth round back in 2009

Ten days into the NFL’s free agency period, Cowboys linebacker Victor Butler is drawing interest from a handful of teams.

Butler has visited the New York Jets, the Pittsburgh Steelers and, as of Thursday, the New Orleans Saints. As you’ve probably heard, ousted Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has taken over the Saints defense. Ryan’s brother Rex is the head coach of the Jets.

In his fourth season in the league in 2012, Butler recorded 25 tackles, three sacks and three forced fumbles while playing in a reserve role. If the Cowboys were ever interested in keeping Butler after 2012, that interest seems to have gone out the window with the firing of Ryan and the addition of Monte Kiffin, who will bring his 4-3 system to town next year.

If Butler does leave Dallas in free agency--and all evidence suggests that he will--the Cowboys will officially have nothing to show for their 2009 draft.
