FRENCH FILM: Catch the Wave, a festival that marks the 50th anniversary of French New Wave by screening the work of directors who made the Cahiers De Cinema a legend, opens tonight with a cocktail reception of baguettes and brie at 6PM with L’année derniere à Marienbad by Alain Resnias to follow. At The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.

BAR BAND: Throw out the canned back-up track and become your heroes at Rock Star Karaoke, where a live band accompanies singers who aren't quite ready for open mic but can totally slay on Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer." Scooter's Bar & Grill, 10PM.

GOURMET DORM: As college-bound kids are salivating for their first taste of freedom and stale fried chicken on a tray, a class at Central Market Plano opens up a world of healthy cuisine possible in the dormitory kitchen. Co-eds learn simple but ethnically diverse dishes that can subsist on slim pockets. Make a reservation here for the class, which runs in two parts tonight and tomorrow. 6:30PM.
