STERLING, Va. -- A drug mule was caught with thousands of dollars worth of heroin around her legs at Dulles International Airport Sunday, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

A CBP K-9 unit caught a whiff of 22-year-old Anna Sprauve's legs at about 2 a.m. A search revealed packets of heroin taped to each of her legs and four packets in her backpack, according to CBP.

“This was a brazen attempt to smuggle dangerous narcotics into the United States but one that ultimately failed because of our highly trained narcotics detector canine Rex,” CBP Port Director for the Port of Washington Christopher Hess said in a press release issued Tuesday.  “This seizure significantly illustrates CBP officers’ vigilance to detect bad actors, and to stem the flow of illegal narcotics from reaching our nation’s streets.”

About 1.4 pounds with an estimated street value of $44,000 was confiscated, according to CBP.

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement arrested Sprauve.

The previous drug smuggling suspect arrested at Dulles was Hector Anibal Lopez Ardon, who is accused of hiding 2.7 pounds of cocaine worth about $85,000 on the street in his trousers and a bowl of cheese.
