Consumer Reports: Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Early Test Results

Consumer Reports has the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in its test labs. Engineers checked the new bigger screens for color accuracy and contrast. And photo experts evaluated the camera, which is supposed to work better in low-light conditions.

Consumer Reports found that the camera and the display on the new iPhone 6s are comparable to those on the iPhone 5s. And that’s very good. One new feature allows you to record smoother video at a higher frame rate. That works, but testers found under low-light conditions in this setting, the image quality deteriorated.

Consumer Reports says the iPhone 6 strikes a great balance between a larger screen size and easy one-handed operations. The 6 Plus however is a bit hard to handle with one hand.

Apple claims longer battery life with the iPhone 6, which has been a downside of earlier iPhones. Consumer Reports has begun battery testing. That can take several days since there are several tests and testing is done on iPhones from all the major carriers.

If you have an iPhone 4S, 5, 5s or 5c, Consumer Reports says you can take advantage of many of the new features on the iPhone 6 with a simple upgrade to iOS 8
. Enhancements include better predictive texting and new tools to improve photos and video.
