One Dead After 5 Vehicle Crash: Mesquite Police

One person is dead after four cars and a semi truck were involved in a crash Friday night on westbound Interstate Highway 30, according to Mesquite Police.

The Mesquite Police Department said they were called out to the 2800 block of Westbound IH 30 just before midnight on June 24 for a motor vehicle crash.

Police investigation revealed that a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe rear ended a 2008 Toyota Corolla, causing a chain reaction crash that involved four vehicles and a semi truck.

Police said the driver of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, 41-year-old Jorge Valdez-Martinez, fled from the scene on foot after the crash. Police added that Valdez-Martinez was believed to be intoxicated and was later arrested.

The driver of the 2008 Toyota Corolla, 55-year-old Sylvia Islas, was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries, according to police. Police said no one else was injured.
